Possible Treatments For Crohn’s Disease

Treatments of Crohn’s Disease are primarily limited to medication and surgery. There are several anti-inflammatory medications that have proven to be beneficial, as well as various forms of surgery depending on the location of the affected area of bowel. Although none of these actually cure Crohn’s Disease, they are helpful is controlling the symptoms. In ebook 2 of “A Complete Guide to Crohn’s Disease and Possible Treatments,” each of these treatments is looked at more completely.

There are five basic categories of medication to treat Crohn’s: aminosalicylates, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, antibiotics, and biologic therapies. Aminosalicylates are used to treat various inflammatory bowel diseases. While used less often with Crohn’s, it has proven to be effective in mild to moderate cases. Corticosteroids work to control inflammation and have been the primary medication treatment since the drug was introduced. Newer version of this type of steroid has proven even more effective in treating Crohn’s. Immunomodulators are used to suppress the body’s immunity mechanisms, which is useful in treating Crohn’s as it is believed the disease may be brought on by the body’s attempt to rid the intestine of bacteria. Antibiotics, on the other hand, are used to rid the body of bacteria and actually repress the intestinal immune system. Biological therapies have recently become a major player in treating Crohn’s. These are created by various living organisms and, in the case of Crohn’s treatment, include the use of an antibody which works to suppress the body’s release of a particular chemical that increases inflammation.

Crohn’s Disease is also treated by surgery. At some point, the majority of people with this disease will have to have a portion of their intestines removed should it become blocked with scar tissue, develop an abscess, or if a fistula requires repair. In the case of a resection, a portion of the bowel is removed, and the two remaining ends are rejoined. However, in more severe cases an ileostomy or colostomy are required, in which fecal matter is redirected, after the removal of a portion of bowel, to a hole in the abdomen to leave the body. The two latter types of surgery are particularly difficult for the patient, as they will then have to wear a bag in which stool is collected. However, there have been major advancements to make this less difficult for the patient.

A less effective treatment option for Crohn’s disease is to control the intake of certain foods. While it is clear Crohn’s Disease is not caused by any particular food, some people notice an increase in certain symptoms with particular foods and a decrease with others. This will vary by individual, but is an option for sufferers of Crohn’s.

Sleep Sanctuaries The Stuff that Dreams are Made of

Sleep isn’t just one of those things that kills time until we can get up and get busy again! Sleep is critical to our mental and physical wellbeing. Without it our immune systems are weakened-the number of white blood cells in our bodies decreases, production of human growth hormone (GH), an anti-aging substance, decreases, and our ability to metabolize sugar declines, turning sugar into fat. Sleep deprivation has even been used as a method of torture because of the extreme physical and mental anguish it exacts on victims!

Sleep is needed to regenerate certain parts of the body, especially the brain, so that it may continue to function optimally. And, because when we sleep we experience REM associated with dreaming, we are fortified emotionally and mentally. We wake up alert, energized, and balanced. Believe it or not, an extra hour of sleep can be better for our overall health than one hour in the gym!

But it is often a challenge to create a quiet place that is conducive to optimum sleep. That’s why creating a “sleep sanctuary” is so critical . . . it tells the body and mind that it’s “time to let go.”

Make sure your space for sleeping is quiet and dark. Try not to sleep in the same room as you do your work. Turn off the computers and the television long before you turn in for the evening. Adjust the thermostat to a slightly coolish temperature (between 65 and 70 degrees). You can always add another layer, but a stuffy air and climate can cause discomfort and breathing difficulties.

Many people, especially urbanites who can’t escape city sounds, will place a sound conditioner (also called a “white noise machine”) by their beds to help them sleep. These machines offer any number of sounds, from white noise (a low static sound) to gentle musical rhythms to the sound of ocean waves beating against the shore. Although white noise doesn’t block out noise, it does desensitize people to outside sounds so that they are less intrusive. For people who are more easily disturbed by the sound of neighbors or street noise, these moderately priced machines can be very helpful.

Super Health Sleep Tip: Do not consume alcohol, sugar or caffeine before bed, and reduce or eliminate those substances from your diet in general, as they are stimulants that exact a heavy toll on the central nervous system and make it more difficult to establish regular sleep patterns.

Multi-task Your Way to a Healthy Body and a Booming Business

Can you relate to this dilemma?

I sit on my keister too many hours each day while I’m working. With the holidays coming, I’m a little worried about it … growing.

Without getting into too many details about my keister, we’ll just say that it’s definitely not the best thing for any keister to be sitting too long each day and leave it at that.

Do you spend too much time in your swivel chair, too?

That got me thinking. A lot of my time sitting is spent listening to recorded teleseminars to boost my business.

So, I decided that I’d use the teleseminars as an excuse to get Skinny, Sexy and Smart all at the same time! How? By getting an mp3 player and listening and learning while I walk or run.

Of course, the first player I looked at was the Ipod which is awesome and comes in a lot of different colors that would look great with my walking shoes — but, the Ipod is pretty expensive. I didn’t know if I would be THAT dedicated to walking just yet, even though I was really drooling over the green one. If you have the cash to spend on the Ipod, then go
for it. I’ll be green with envy if you do.

I checked into some more options and found a cool little mp3 player that was a fraction of the price. I received it last week, and I love it! It’s working just fine for what I need.

The first thing I did when I got my mp3 player was to start a file with about 20 hours of audios that I had saved up from a bunch of speakers who I admire. Talks on getting traffic, improving my copywriting, and writing e-books … that fun kind of stuff that really gets us Internet Marketers fired up, and puts the rest of the world to sleep.

So, needless to say, I’ve got a lot of walking ahead of me. I’m feeling like Forrest Gump. I may start running … and never stop.

If you’re dreading the holiday weight gain, but don’t want to take time away from your business, an mp3 player might be a good investment for you, too. Definitely shop around, if
you’re on a tight budget. There are a lot of options available and the prices on the lower end are very affordable. Ask Santa to help you multi-task to be a Sexy and Smart WAHM, too.
