Get Rid Of Constipation And Improve Your Health

Lets face it, constipation can really be a bummer. That bloated uncomfortable feeling can affect everything from your day to day chores to having fun on that summer vacation. But not only is being constipated uncomfortable, it can be bad for your health too.

While most instances of constipation signify nothing more than the inability of your bowels to do their job due to lack of fiber, the underlying reason most always stems from poor eating habits. These poor eating habits have effects on your body that reach much further than a simple inconvenience, in fact what you eat could be contributing to many illnesses and even setting your body up for serious problems like heart disease and cancer.

Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do that will help you eliminate constipation as well as improve your overall health.

Well all know that lack of fiber is the main cause of constipation so your first goal should be to eat high fiber foods. Even better, studies show that eating foods high in fiber can help protect you against heart disease. A bowl of oatmeal is a good start, but a bowl of oatmeal, several pieces of fruit, and a bran muffin is even better. For most people, boosting your fiber intake will serve as a natural and healthy way to get rid of constipation. These high fiber foods can also help lower your cholesterol, your blood pressure, and reduce your chances of getting colon cancer too.

Fruits and vegetables are a great source of fiber - remember to leave the skins on when you eat them. Not only are they a great source of fiber, but fruits and vegetables also are loaded with vitamins and minerals as well as powerful antioxidants that can help boost your immune system and protect you from disease. Try adding 5 or more cups of fruits and vegetables to your diet every day - you’ll be amazed at how much energy you gain and how good you feel. Some fruits that are high in fiber include raspberries, blackberries, figs, prunes, papaya and pears. Vegetables high in fiber include artichoke, acorn squash, peas, brussels sprouts and cauliflower.

Although many people use laxatives to relieve constipation, this is not a method I would recommend. You can get rid of it and improve your health by eating less junk processed foods and adding more whole grains, fruits and vegetables to your diet.

If you do find that these methods don’t help or you suffer from chronic constipation, a trip to your doctor might not be a bad idea.

Boosting Your Brain And Your Body

“Brain researchers estimate that your unconscious database outweighs the conscious on an order exceeding ten million to one. This database is the source of your hidden, natural genius. In other words, a part of you is much smarter than you are. The wise people regularly consult that smarter part.”

Michael J. Gelb (b. 1952) Writer, author

If your goals have a wellbeing aspect to them, is it time for you to take responsibility for your future health? What can you do to move you a step further towards a healthier, fitter future?

You’ve read the reports; you’ve seen the programmes and filed the information in your mental ‘To Do’ File. So do it! It might involve taking some omega-3 supplements (obtainable from either fish oil or vegetarian supplements), it could be that you need to up your water intake, it might be getting the old bike out of the garage but you haven’t quite got round to it yet. No more putting it off! The time and effort you invest in yourself from now on will more than provide you with a generous future dividend - good health.

What better thing can you do for yourself than take care of your health?

If you haven’t already started to add a little more activity to each day then now is the time to start. If you have started, can you up the ante and push yourself a little bit more? You’ll reap the benefits if you do.

I can go on and on about this (and probably will!), but essentially it is down to you.

I’ve read that the best kind of meal is the naturally colorful ones (no artificial colorings in sight!). How creative can you get with your meals? Lovely crisp red, yellow, orange and green peppers, gorgeously crinkled Savoy cabbage, beautiful beetroot, crunchy carrots in all their golden splendour! Oooh, it makes my mouth water just to write this!

What can you do to help you increase your sense of wellbeing that involves no, or very little, cost? What do you like doing that would give you pleasure to do more of? Have you a book waiting to be read? How about going for a blustery autumnal walk? Go on! You can do it! Get those brain cells boosted!

3 Interesting Vitamin facts

1) “Why do Eskimos and husky dogs do not eat polar bear liver?”

Because it contains huge amounts of Vitamin A. One gram of polar bear liver contains 12 times the daily required amount of Vitamin A (1 mg).

And what happens if you overdose on Vitamin A? Here is a not-too-pleasant list: skin problems (itching, peeling off), drowsiness and sleepiness, splitting headaches, spleen and liver enlargement, painful swelling of tissues next to the bones, loss of appetite.

Vitamin A overdose during the first three months of pregnancy can cause congenital abnormalities.

2) “Why did Linus Pauling took 40,000 mg of Vitamin C a day?”

Linus Pauling, the only scientist who won 2 Nobel prizes in history (Chemistry 1954 and Peace in 1962), was a big-time believer in Vitamin C.

Pauling himself took massive amounts of it daily to prevent common cold. He started taking 12,000 mg a day and took it all the way up to 40,000 mg. He claimed he delayed the onset of his prostate cancer by twenty years by taking such unheard of quantities of Vitamin C before he died at 93.

The modern medical research could not prove that Vitamin C protects against common cold or cancer.

However, Vitamin C is of course essential for healthy gums, fighting gingivitis, healthy vision, among its many other benefits. Vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy.

3) “What does Vitamin Choline do?”

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Vitamin Choline, which is a member of the Vitamin B family. It’s other name is “Amanitine” and is found in Lecithin.

Some doctors recommend Choline for alcoholics or diabetics. It is used to fight Alzheimer’s disease, angina, atherosclerosis, fatty liver, senility, high blood pressure, thrombosis, and strokes.

Choline is found in bananas, green leafy vegetables, legumes, beef, nuts, wheat germ, shellfish, whole grain cereals. The literature does not cite any serious side effects.
